Why Your Cat Or Dog Needs CBD For Pets

Lots of studies and articles have been written about the possible positive effects that CBD products may have on the human body. However, this substance is not just for people. CBD for pets is a growing part of the overall product sector for a variety of reasons.

Before learning the advantages of CBD when given to a pet, it is important to know what it is. It is known as cannabidiol, which is a compound often found in both hemp and cannabis. The CBD is extracted from hemp, which does not contain THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol. The THC is what gives you that ‘high’ effect that marijuana is known for. However, since hemp does not have THC in it, you get the calming effects without the high. So, your dog or cat will not get stoned using these products.

Many dogs and cats have what is referred to as noise phobias. This is when certain noises or loud, sudden sounds can cause them great anxiety. They may act out and misbehave if they have this somewhat common condition. But giving them CBD products can greatly reduce the anxiety so they are always on their best behavior in noisy or excitable situations.

Up to five percent of all dogs suffer from some kind of seizures, which can eventually be fatal. However, when dispensed CBD, study groups suffered fewer seizures. A similar result was found in dogs who suffered from epilepsy in a different trial.

As dogs get old, they start to suffer from some similar effects to humans who are aging. For example, they may begin to deteriorate in their motor skills and function due to brain cells dying or not functioning properly. It is believed that CBD can help dispel free radicals and toxins, which helps to protect the brain as the dog gets older, just like it can help do something similar to the human brain. This may extend the dog’s life, which is especially rewarding if the pooch is considered a family member.

Many conditions may cause a dog to have vomiting or nausea as symptoms. This means they are unlikely to eat, causing weight loss, dehydration, and weakness. CBD has been shown to increase appetite and reduce or even eliminate nausea and vomiting, protecting your pet and helping them get stronger after an illness.

As more research is done, there will likely be even more benefits uncovered in the future. Until then, all of these reasons are enough to make you consider talking to your vet about whether CBD products are a good idea for your beloved pet.
