Understanding Thread Pitch Adapters

Astronomy Threads Explained

When thinking about cleaning your firearms, the essential things to consider are the cleaning solvent, the solvent trap, and the solvent trap adapter. While the solvent trap helps collect solvents during the cleaning process so that it doesn’t mess up the floor and can be reused, adapters help make them fit into your firearm. However, to ensure solvent flow seamlessly from the firearm to the solvent trap, you must choose the suitable adapter. That is why it is essential for every firearm owner to understand the solvent trap thread pitch adapter.

How Are Thread Adapter Used in Firearm Cleaning

Solvent trap adapters are small cylindrical objects. They have different treading at the two ends. One end fits into the solvent trap, while the other fits into the firearm barrel. That means one end must have the same thread pitch as the mini solvent trap while the other must correspond to the firearm threads. Therefore, to choose the correct solvent trap adapter, you must understand your firearm’s thread pitch.

Thread Pitch of Common Firearms

The thread pitch is the distance between two successful threads. Threads are found on firearms as well as on mini solvent traps. This is usually unique to the firearm style. If you are used to firearms, you would have known what the thread pitches of common firearms are. However, here is a brief description of the thread pitch of common types of firearms.

• 1/2 x 28 Thread Pitch

9 mm weapons are among the most popular firearms. The barrels of most of them have a thread pitch of 1/2 x 28 mm. However, there are a few firearms in this category with different thread pitches. For instance,9 mm B&T, 9 mm HK, 9 mm Glock, styler Arms, and Sphinx all have a thread pitch of 13.5 x 1 LHM. At the same time, .22 firearms also have 1/2 x 28 thread pitches. Therefore, if you are not sure, it is necessary to confirm before you buy a solvent trap adapter.

• 0.578 X 28 Thread Pitch

This thread pitch is seen in .45 ACP. However, Glock, H&K USP Tactical, and KRISS Vector SMG are among the common exceptions in this category. Those mentioned use M16 x 1 LH, while H&K Mark 23 uses M16 x 1 RH.

• 9/16 x 24 Thread Pitch

9/16 x 24 thread pitch is commonly seen in .40 cal firearms. But like other categories of firearms, there are exceptions to this. The common exceptions are Glock and H&K firearms that use M14.5 x 1 LH and Sig Sauer with M13.5 x 1 LH.
