In recent years, companies have been bombarded by the requirements of their customers and suppliers to obtain various security certifications in the supply chain (C-TPAT, BASC, NEEC -now known as OAS-, PIP, etc.).

For many companies, especially those that have not approached security issues, either because of their size or simply because they did not think it necessary to do so, implementing one of those programs in their facilities becomes a very complicated task.

Implementation Processes To Follow

First of all, it is essential to know that these certifications are not exclusive for the companies that belong to the eligible sectors of the programs, since these are extended to their business associates (organizations that provide different services: cleaning, subcontracting of personnel, information technologies, uniforms, GPS, CCTV, among others).

In recent months, several experts have emerged on this issue, which offer express certifications and comprehensive packages (even with the preparation of procedures and manuals). They seduce the companies with the argument that they will not charge a single peso until the end of the process.

Everything sounds terrific in the first instance; However, these advisors do not worry about verifying the correct implementation of these procedures in the company, which causes an adverse evaluation or even rejection by the authority. After this, the organizations must wait for two years (C-TPAT) or up to five (under the new OAS Mexico) to restart the process. In the end, they only waste time, money, and effort.
